Short-acting oral barbiturate; used for preoperative anxiety or short-term sedation; rarely used for insomnia due to rapid development of tolerance.

Indicated for use in procedural sedation.
For the short-term treatment of insomnia.

Causes CNS depression and impairs mental and physical abilities

Cay cause hyperactivity and agitation

Use with caution in patients with depression, hepatic or renal impairment, cardiovascular diseases, or respiratory diseases

Lactation: secreted in breast milk; use with caution

300 mg/day PO.

Geriatric

300 mg/day PO.

Adolescents

6 mg/kg/day PO (Max: 100 mg).

Children

6 mg/kg/day PO (Max: 100 mg).
