Clonidine/Chlorthalidone

DEA Class;  Rx

Common Brand Names; Clorpres

  • Thiazide Combos

Combination thiazide diuretic (chlorthalidone) and centrally acting alpha2 adrenergic agonist (clonidine).
Used for hypertension, but not for initial therapy; used if fixed dose represents effective dosages for the patient after titration.
The fixed combination may be more convenient than taking each drug individually.

Indicated for the treatment of hypertension.
NOTE: Clonidine; chlorthalidone fixed combination therapy is not indicated for initial antihypertensive therapy. The initial dose must be titrated to the individual patient. If the fixed combination represents the individual dosages required for the patient, its use may be more convenient in patient management.

Hypersensitivity to either component or sulfonamide derivatives

No adverse effects specific to the combination have been observed; adverse effects limited to those previously reported with clonidine and chlorthalidone
